Mahachanok mangoes were imported to Japan in November 2006 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Rama IX.
"Mahachanok" means great lineage or great father, and is named in honor of the book "Mahachanok" written by His Majesty the former King, and in celebration of the longest reign.
A crossbreed with the apple mango, it has a reddish-gold color when ripe.
The pulp is less fibrous and has a richer flavor. It has a sweeter taste and more gorgeous aroma than Nam Dok Mai mangoes.
